My funny little Valentines

Our family is taking a raincheck this year since they are sick. I did buy them chocolates, cards to give them and a special little trinket. Since they didn't have school tomorrow the day was going to look like this;

In the morning after they got their surprises they would have a pancake breakfast shaped with hearts and strawberries. We were then going to serve at church for a couple of hours. After that I was going to take them to the beach and have a picnic lunch with heart shaped sandwiches, sparkling water, those heart shaped crackers with cheeses in assorted shapes. I saved some extra money to take them to their favorite Japanese restaurant where they cook in front of you, that was their surprise for dinner. The finale, watching the Princess Bride at home with popcorn mixed with M&M's. They are my funny valentines and I wanted to make it special.

Since nothing went as planned, we are confined to the house drinking smoothies, eating chicken soup in sweatpants with buckets near by. I guess its not all in shambles as I am still going to watch my movie, The princess bride. I will also have plumbers in my house tomorrow morning opening many walls and parts of my ceiling since there was a leak in my air-conditioning. This was since December they are now able to fix it. The highlight, after two months we are on our way to finally getting heat after the inspector comes and gives the ok. Hopefully in a week. Not holding my breath as its been two months already, we have learned to adapt with layering our clothes in the house since its been so cold.

With that said in honor of Valentines day I wanted to share somethings that I would love to do with my loved ones, a bucket list of sorts.

1) I would love to visit Santa Margherita in Italy and go to a winery and crush the grapes. My family owned a winery there many years ago. My great grandmother gave our land away to the workers, I am not sure of the whole story. God bless her little soul, we are still baffled by this. My mother was able to visit with my grandmother when she was 17 and they allowed her to crush the grapes on what use to be our vineyard. My mother says this was one of the many highlights in her life.

2) I would love to take a family vacation with my boys. Somewhere we could all enjoy the activities and just let lose and have fun. Someone else to do the cooking, make our beds and just a place for mom to relax and have fun too!

3) I would love to dance in the rain by the Eiffel tower in Paris with my boys. I am a romantic at heart, I know its more hype however its something that I would enjoy and its mostly so I can say I did it with my boys.

4) I have a huge desire in my heart to take my older boys on a mission trip to another country. I have always wanted to do this when I saw the tenderness in their hearts and how much they love to help.

5) I would love a day of pampering; a whole day to myself to love on myself. A day where I can get a message and lounge around and just soak up the silent and the still of everything. I would then love to get to bed early and wake up late. I would love to have 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, that sounds so refreshing and delightful.

6) One day I would love to take my boys on a cross country road trip, I will do this one day! Have a whole agenda planned and stop at all the major landmarks, relish in the history not just the bubble we live in. To actually see natures beauty and touch it not just flip the pages of a book. That would be so amazing.

Not sure what your day looks like tomorrow. Since we have to do a raincheck I have time to revamp some things and get more ideas. Here are some of the blogs that I enjoyed reading to get my heart pumped up for Valentines day.

What are your big plans for Valentines day?

We don't do Valentine's Day - well my husband and I that is. I got the kids some chocolates, but nothing big. My dream had always been being able to take them to Disney World every year and we are going for our sixth time in August, so - so far it's come true :)

Despite agreeing not to do Valentine's Day, my husband bought me cards & chocolates. Naturally, I feel like a fool for not having anything for him. Men!

We basically exchange boxes of chocolate, and give the kids some things too. We aren't big Valentines Day people. We think love should be celebrated everyday.

Great idea with your bucket list. I half-jokingly told my hubby I should put up a blog post of my Valetine's wishes so he'd know what to get me, lol.

i use valentine's day as an excuse to buy myself chocolates and eat them lol

My hubs hates Valentine's. He feels like he should show me all year long that he loves me and not just one day. While I agree to an extent, I love Valentine's. I love celebrating love. So we are doing family night (normal Friday night), but I got the kids some chocolates.

When I read about your mom having such great memories about grape stomping, I looked up to see if there was a winery near me that did that and there is! I'll have to go to the festival because that sounds like fun. :) Also, thanks for the shoutout on my V-day post!

This year, my husband and I are taking the heartfelt approach to Valentine's Day! We are going to enjoy each other's company and have a date night! I love your optimism, and hope to cross some places off my bucket list too!

I love Valentines Day even if I don't really do anything special. I'd love to travel out of the country with the kids too!

We don't really do Valentine's Day either, just some little treats for the kids. I love your bucket list!

We don't really do Valentine's either, although my husband showed up with some of my favorite candy for me while I didn't get him anything. Whoops.

I hope you do have an opportunity to take your boys on a mission trip. That would be a wonderful experience.

And I would love to travel to Europe with my kids too! That would be an exciting trip for all of us.

I'm sad to hear that your Valentine's Day did not go as you planned it. But at least you got your movie :) Hope you all get well soon.

We did nothing special today.....just some pizza and togetherness. And that is good enough for me=)

We don't do anything really for Valentine's Day either...just give the kids lots of hugs. They get enough candy at school.

We didn't do much today - stayed in watching a movie and got a take out which was nice, just spending time with those I love is enough for me :) x

No big valentine's day for me. Staying in and watching movies

We spent all day at the dentist for Valentine's day. Braces coming off, teeth cleaning. Not the ideal way lol. Sorry everyone is feeling sick today :( That's definitely not ideal! But smoothies and chicken soup do sound yummy!

There was a snow day here so we spent the day hiding from 12 inches of snow.

We baked some red velvet cookies and then I ran on the treadmill for an hour. It was a great day. :)

These are some nice plans or goals to have for your family. I love the first one to go to Italy. I would love to visit there at least once as well. We actually don't really celebrate Valentine's Day. :)

I don't do valentines day but hubby bought me roses, which really surprised me. I love your bucket list especially since Italy is on there. It's on my bucket list too.

That is a great bucket list. I would love a whole day of pampering too. Or even just a whole day of doing nothing. I hope everyone is feeling better in your house soon!

I always try to make every holiday special for my boys too. These are the memories that they will remember throughout their lives.

Great ideas,i loved your post! but unfortunately my hubby thinks its just silly, why just one day, to celebrate love,it could be any day and everyday and he goes out of his way to make me happy on regular days and thats what i love about him

Eliz Frank said...

I love you bucket list and hope you get all your wishes some day. I didn't do much for the V day... :-)

We usually only exchange cards, but this year hubby and son gave me gifts and we went to watch a show as a family! IT was a lot of fun!

Debi said...

I worked on Valentine's Day. And so did hubby so we didn't do anything

debdenny said...

Sounds sappy, I know... but we took my hubby's blood pressure and it was almost normal. We celebrated. After the week we have went thru with his heart and blood pressure, trust me, that was all I needed for Valentine's Day.

I didn't do Valentine's Day this year, I am feeling under the weather also. But I love your list! I would love to do those things, especially Italy!

Sounds like a nice "bucket list" of things to do with your family!

We celebrated early with dinner at Olive Garden. Low key & relaxing after a long day of work :P

My husband and I just had a fancy lunch and came home to watch movies on the couch.. Nothing special. I think as long as family is together.. It doesn't matter the day.

Such a great post! I love your bucket list so much, it's almost like I could have written it myself! :-) I look forward to reading more from you.

Sorry you were sick. It was in our house recently too. What an awful cold! Your bucket list is awesome! I would like to do almost everything on there too. If you want a nice vacation where you don't have to do anything, you should take a cruise. Almost everything is included and they are so much fun. And they have great activities for kids as well!

Kristen Campbell said...

I love your bucket list! And I'm hoping you guys are all feeling much better now! We stayed in for Valentine's Day, too…not a fan of going out and getting stuck in all the dinner crowds!

Sorry to hear that everyone is under the weather. I hope you get to do all the things on your list. I am sure you and your family will have a lot of fun.
